I was thinking about this on my way home today.

If your driving on the highway you would obviously get better fuel economy if you turned off your A/C. But if you turned off the A/C and opened the windows of your car would the aerodynamics get messed up and reduce your fuel economy. If so by how much. It would obviously depend on the vehicle, but I'm just speaking in general.

Maybe I'll preform an experiment one of these days...

Click and Clack, the official source of this kind of information protest that using the A/C uses less fuel than the drag created by opening the windows (and really killing your aerodynamics).

    BEN

I have a 3 1/2 year old 20 inch iMac and have had no problems with it. I notice the past several months or so when I quit it at night it shuts down within 3-4 seconds. It hasn't always been this way and I am not complaining, but just wondering why it's a fairly recent occurrence. It starts up using the normal amount of time but the shut down is almost instantaneous. Everything is up to date with the latest version. I just wonder why it shuts down so fast. I bypass the 10 second wait when shutting down by holding down the shift and option or maybe it's the shift and command buttons. I don't want to try it right now by shutting it down. Does everybody,s computer shut down this fast or is it just me?
    Thanks for a reply 

If we were including both iPhone 3G/3Gs and iPhone 4 cases, I'd have well over 100 possibly.

I used to do iPhone 3G/3Gs case reviews so a lot were sent out. I still have them all laying around because my brother has my iPhone 3G now...he doesn't use any of the cool ones I liked.

I've bought all but 2 cases for my iPhone 4. One was sent over c/o mocciat on YouTube, the other was the Apple bumper. I've bought about 20 for it alone.

I'm weird. I like matching my case with what I'm wearing (other than the Otterbox Defender, which I use whenever I go to work).

Its not just iphone production or Apple either. Foxconn makes stuff for every major electronics manufacturer.

So this is not an Apple issue. It's Foxconn's issue and the fact that the Chinese government allows them to get away with it.

Which do you think is better? i am taking a poll for a class and i've met tons of people on here that i think could really help me out.

    http://flipter.com/item/1659/

between my iPad 2 and my Droid X, i am really unsure on where i want to go from here so i wanna find out what most people think. right now its at 17 votes Android and 16 votes iOS. this isnt spam or self marketing. this is just me trying to get help from the mac community. I have an upgrade for a phone in september and im torn between an iPhone 5 and the Droid Bionic and this poll will help me determine where the larger crowd is at, and which phone may be best for me.

    thanks so much

Need some advice. That last Apple I used was an Apple IIe back when I was a kid. Still miss playing some of those games, but I digress. I am going to switch to a new iMac. Wife has an iphone and kids have 4th gen ipods so I have a little familiarity.

I currently have 6 year old HP Windows machine. 250 gig HD, Intel Core processor, slow as molasis.

I have decided to purchase the 21 "" model and would like advice on which one and if I should add anything. ie buy the $1199 model but upgrade x.

Does the $300 justifiy the 500 increase in HD with better chip and graphics chip?

I was thinking of using buying the one-to-one sevice becasue my current Windows machine has 100 gigs of itunes music and a ton of valuable (to me) pictures. Worth it?

I have 3 grade school kids that don't do much gaming (yet) other than on our PS3 and Wii. They might in the future.

I also want to get a word processor program for them. Is iWork sufficient or should I get MS Office? Will it be sufficient when they are in High School. iWork files give any problems when transfering to a Office Windows machine?

The main thing I want the computer for is as a media hub for my family. iphoto, itunes, perhaps some HD video taken from my Canon T1i. Also for web browsing and the schoool projects.

Finally, should I purchase apple care?

I expect this computer to last my family for at least 6 years. (I hope)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

    Hello,
I created a file in quartz composer and I put it in a standalone application. I need the user to be able to see the desktop behind it. I tried setting the clear color opacity in IB to 0% however you just see the window behind it. I need the application window to be clear as well as the Quartz Composer so the things happing in the Quartz file appear to be happening over whatever is under the window.
    Thanks

Another one of these topics? There's already been a thread with this exact link - and people question Apple's build quality every year. Too much thermal paste is nothing new.

Personally, I doubt that the new MBPs are any worse than the older models. There will always be a few lemons when you're shipping millions of machines.

We all know that George W Bush's entry into power was flawed but that is America, not the UK....

Democracy has always been about majority voting, the most votes wins, so if 40% is the most then its only fair to allow that party to govern.

The reality is that many will not think about their secondary or third placed votes properly and we could end up with a government that in reality was voted in by mistake....

Yes, the current system is flawed but look at the figures globally, only a handful of other countries use AV and some want to get shot of it.

So, you're saying AV is bad because people are too stupid to get their head around it.....

Ignoring of course the fact that if you like you can still just vote for one party and one party only, you're not mandated to put all options in order.

If you have your HD set up this way, can you access it from anywhere or just on your home network? I'm wanting to get all my music and movies set up this way so that I can free up space on my mbp, but I don't want to lug around a portable HD everywhere I go

It is possible via Mobile Me and maybe other services, but streaming movies from your home to your MBP while on the road might be slow depending on your internet connection and how much you pay per MB/GB.
A mobile 2.5" HDD might be cheaper in the long run and doesn't take up much space and does not wear more than 200g.
