A question for you avid music listeners that [like myself] need to have everything near perfect.
How do you guys go about Genre naming some of your music? Do you just give it a name like Alternative and be done or do you name it Alternative Rock, if it's a little heavier Alternative?
The reason I ask is that I've got several [fairly new bands] to my collection and I don't know what to name them.
I also have a hard time genre naming some bands back in the 70's & 80's since there was bands like Supertramp, Billy Joel and then you'd have Rush. I don't consider Supertramp and Rush in the same category so I can't just name it Rock.
Do you do Classic Rock for both The Beatles & The Doors?
Any ideas, or am I thinking too hard about this?
What iTunes desperately lacks is a comprehensive and flexible tagging system with the ability to store multiple genres and/or styles for one song (along with a concept for virtual songs).
Anyway:
Supertramp:
Prog-Rock
Billy Joel:
Soft Rock / Singer-Songwriter
Rush:
Arena Rock
The Beatles:
Early Pop/Rock / British Psychedelic
The Doors:
Proto-Punk
Solved.
I usually create genres based on the styles that bands have listed for them on Allmusic (http://www.allmusic.com/) (e.g. Alternative Folk Pop, Contemporary Jazzpop, Jambands & American Trad Rock, Progressive Minimalism etc.)

I wouldn't wait for the Macintels, but I heard there are some dual-dual-Powermacs around the corner - I'd wait two more weeks for them.
i would agree with this as well!

Will be interesting to see how many more identities this person will setup and how many more crackpot, racist crap threads he starts before getting banned.

Some artists have their very own category on my iPod because they have very extensive library's.
Frank Zappa - FRANK
Bob Dylan - Dylan
Grateful Dead - The Dead
Lou Reed - The Man
David Bowie - Bowie
etc.....
Have fun with labels like Cat Stevens is listed as Radical Islamic Singalongs, no offense to Islam and it's followers, just my sense of humor :p.

I'll go against the grain and say keep what you have.
You stated you want to cut down on costs, so unless you are a business doing some funky accounting tricks, your equipment is already paid for. And it sounds like since you do Apple dev as a profession, you may kick yourself in the future for having sold the Mac Pro for a ****** Windows box when you pick up another contract.
I also do contract work, and wouldn't dream of selling my personal equipment I use for business unless it was literally a "sell the Mac Pro or lose my apartment" kind of deal.
BTW, what do you have? What do you use? What's your workflow look like? Do you do any windows development?

Who was the celebrity?
... and Calvinatir, you're my new best friend. You have a way with money that takes my breath away. Can you do me a favor and pay off my student loans?

well, they say to make your aac files bookmarkable, but then don't explain "how" to do that. I'd like to know, if anyone can give me a quick pointer.
Go to "Feed Settings" (select a feed and press Cmd-I . It's also in the "Podcasts" menu.)
There is a check-box labeled "Make AAC files Bookmarkable".

Didn't work :( I'll call PS tomorrow to see about a replacement. I have the second one I can install, but I think I should get a free replacement for the one that appears to be defective.

Hi,
Is it possible to check when a button is pressed and released?
I wanted to do something when the button is pressed and something else when its released?
Let's say print press began when the button at the first touch and print button released when it is released.
Thanks,
Yes.

Thanks for the tips so far. After reading that the Performa 6290cd was one of the worst Macs ever made, I immediately bought one !! Not here yet, but if operational, I'll use it to test the software. If successful, I'll know that powerpc models aren't out of the question and maybe grab a few old, inexpensive Macs to toy with this project.
Other than a couple of Minis I have around here from the past couple of years, this is also gonna be good for filling in my knowledge of Macs from the mid years.
Being mostly from the Windows world, tearing this thing apart will be fun.
I found a guy selling internal scsi burners for Macs. From Apple docs, it appears I can lift the case and replace the internal cd-rom drive with one of these burners. Any tips on those- brands etc that may work with the old Macs?
Also, am I right that I should be looking for Toast 4 to possibly burn backups to cd if the burner works ? Old versions of Toast seem very hard to find.
This 6290cd is loaded with about every card option Apple had at the time and I know this thing was aimed at the Sears crowd etc. This one even appears to have the dedicated vga option as well as the standard Apple display type connector. Owner says os 9 is on it but the restore cd will be 7.6 or 7.5. Think I'll start with an immediate restore to that. Any opinions on how this model handles os 8? By the way, it has a gigantic 48mb of ram (ha ha)
Will also explore networking once I add an ethernet card to the comm or ld port, but those projects are for another time.
This is a cool place !

I'm having the same problem, the answer might be the NVidia driver. I'm going to try this driver.

I have a first gen ipod nano that it having some problems. It has worked for a while now, and then yesterday, I plugged it into my computer to charge it, and it worked fine for the rest of the day, but today, I tried to turn it on, and there is no sign of it working or anything. I tried plugging it into my mac, and it does not notice it. Does this mean that the battery is dead? Or does it mean that the screen is mad or something? Thanks for the help.

It's supported. You have to install the CUDA drivers though. It's available on the nVidia website.

I found this video of Portal 2 on a MacBook Air. I guess it runs okay, according to the description:

This is a 2009 MacBook:

I'd infer from that that it'll work fairly well.

Yep, deinstall it and reinstall it! Then you can configure it again and you could download another one that is for dual cores.

Bloomberg claims sources close to the negotiations say an agreement between Apple and labels will be reached before the middle of the year.
The reports said, “A deal would provide iTunes customers with a permanent backup of music purchases if the originals are damaged or lost […] The move would be a step closer to universal access to content centrally stored on the internet."
Both 7digital and eMusic are among the digital music sites that currently allow users to re-download tracks they have already paid for.
This can only be a good thing. I shall certainly consider downloading more from iTunes in the future than buying CD's if Apple are successful.

Haha yeah. For the iPad they opened at 9AM and I showed up around 8 and was amazed at the line - I think about 50% of it was Canadians showing up to buy it since it wasnt available internationally though. They also flew through those lines - there were at least 100 people in line ahead of me and I was out by 9:15.
The iPhone sale process requires a bit more work, so I imagine lines will be a bit slower, but hey, who knows?
I have a couple friends going with me so I don't mind the hanging out early :-).
